De Koninck

De Koninck is the star brew from the city brewery of the same name. This amber-coloured ‘spéciale belge’ is often given the affectionate nickname, “bolleke” because of its bulbous glass. The beer has a fresh and zesty flavour, tastes slightly bitter in the mouth but has a surprisingly mild aroma. De Winterkoninck is a darker beer, stronger and more full-in-the-mouth. If you prefer a strong blond, opt for a De Koninck Triple d’Anvers. Newcomer Wild Jo heralds this brewery’s venture into the world of sour beers. Wild Jo has re-fermented using wild yeasts (Brettanomyces), a first for De Koninck. The launch of Wild Jo was timed to coincide with the inauguration of this now completely renovated Antwerp brewery. The site was completely overhauled and now includes several tasting rooms, a splendidly equipped visitor trail in both the real and the virtual sense and a brewery shop. The new brewery is also home to a cheese ager, a quality butcher, a chocolatier, a bakery and a restaurant. A visit to this brewery not only allows you to taste the beers, but also to discover – often surprising – pairings with a whole range of foodstuffs.
