Paljas

‘Paljas’ means a clown or fool. The word itself is a corruption of the Italian pagliacci, also the name of the I Pagliacci opera composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo. In the glass, the fool takes the shape of a Paljas Blond, Paljas Bruin, Paljas IPA or a Paljas Saison. The Paljas Blond always receives a warm welcome at the seaside, especially in the bars that pop up on the coast in the summer time. The Paljas Bruin has much in common with his blond brother: both are relatively light beers with an abundance of taste. The Paljas IPA is a strongly hopped beer, brewed with the zesty Saaz aroma hop and a number of exotic aroma hops: Tomahawk, Cascade and Amarillo. The dry hopping with Nelson Sauvin aroma hops provides a final hop boost. The new kid on the block, the Paljas Saison, was inspired by a traditional farm beer from the Hainaut (Henegouwen) region. This beer is created with pils and wheat malts, Magnum bitter hops, Amarillo, Cascade, Citra and Saaz aroma hops. More dry hopping with aroma hops provides an additional hop flavour. Paljas Saison is ideal for drinking during the summer months. The in-bottle re-fermentation ensures that the beer is high in carbon dioxide, giving a refreshing and zesty taste. Paljas Saison is very quaffable and slightly sour thanks to the use of wheat malt.
