Duvel Moortgat
This strong blonde needs no introduction. A sign on the side of the brewery’s Puurs depot commands you to be silent. The reason: this is where the beer spends 10 days fermenting in the warm room at 24°C. It will then stabilise for another six weeks in cold chambers at 5°C. Altogether, it takes three months before the freshly brewed Duvel is ready to explore in your glass. This beer has a light look to it, similar to pils, but offers a surprising amount of character. Over the last few years Duvel has acquired a sibling: the Duvel Tripel Hop. This is a stronger beer and, in addition to the tried and trusted Saaz-Saaz and Styrian Golding hops, contains a third hop variety that varies year by year: Citra (2012), Sorachi Ace (2013), Mosaic (2014), Equinox (2015). Disocover the aromas and tastes of this surprising Duvel and don’t forget to take a look at the glass in which it is served. The designs on the Duvel Collection glasses are from the hands of artists such as Arne Quinze and Daan. The Vedett, a lighter beer, is derived from the former export pils. Besides the Vedett Extra Blond pils and the Vedett Extra White witbier, there is now also a Vedett IPA with added hops.
