Amburon
The new Amburon Belgian Craft Brewery, located in Tongeren, pays homage to the rich historic past of the oldest city in Belgium: Amburon is a contraction of the names of the legendary warrior Ambiorix and the tribe he led, the Eburones. Ambiorix defeated the Romans and managed to escape the ensuing wrath, giving rise to his legendary status. The Tungri beers are a reference to Tongeren’s oldest inhabitants. The Tungri Blond and Bitter are well-balanced and accessible with a pure, natural taste. These beers are unfiltered and they re-ferment in the bottle. Tungri Blond (7.5%) is zesty and slightly fruity. Hop is added three times during brewing, which accounts for the slightly bitter touch. Tungri Bitter (7.5%) is characterised by a balance between citrus aromas and hop. Different varieties of hops colour the taste. Pleasantly bitter with a mild finish. Amburon wants to break new ground without departing from the Belgian brewing tradition. They are following the latest trends such as maturation in wood and the use of wild yeasts. They keep an eye on new beer styles and like to introduce new city and regional beers and seasonal brews from time to time.
