Liefmans
The Liefmans brewery on the banks of the Scheldt is a museum that brings the past alive. Liefmans beers have acquired their unique taste thanks to mixed fermentation in open cooling basins, extra-long cold storage period (for up to three years in chilled barrels), the use of real krieken cherries (for Liefmans Fruitesse and Liefmans Kriek Brut) and the blending of young and old beers. In the glass you can taste the result of many years of expertise in cutting (blending) beers of different vintages. Older beers are blended with a younger, fresher and sweeter beer to refresh the taste. The beer will re-ferment after cutting, achieving a more balanced and consistent taste. The beer will ferment for a week before maturing for a period of four to eight months in the warm rooms. Liefmans Oud Bruin is a characteristic and refreshing sour brown beer from Oudenaarde. Liefmans Goudenband is a blended ‘Oudenaards bruin bier’ that has spent between four and eight months maturing in cellars. Liefmans Fruitesse is a blend of beer and real krieken cherries, with natural fruit juices. Liefmans Kriek Brut is a strong fruit beer based on Liefmans Oud Bruin and a traditional ‘krieken’ cherry beer.
